Assignment submission

Students should follow the steps below for successful assignment submission in their unit:

  • Go to Assignments under the Course Tools menu.
  • You will see 4 tabs across the top of the page: 'Inbox', 'Submitted', 'Graded' and 'Published'.

    The 'Inbox' tab contains new assignments or submissions returned to you for editing.

    The 'Submitted' tab contains your submissions and any assignments for which you have missed the cutoff date.

    The 'Graded' tab contains submissions reviewed by the Section Instructor.

    The 'Published' tab contains submissions that you or the Section Instructor published so all members of the course can view them.
  • From the 'Inbox', select the name of the assignment you wish to submit.

  • If you need to upload a zip file check here for instructions on creating a zip file
  • Click the 'Add Attachments' button.
    Click the 'Add Attachments' button
  • Click on 'My Computer'. This will allow you to browse your computer for your assignment file.
    Click on 'My Computer'
  • Select your assignment file and then press the 'choose'/'open'/'ok' button (depending on your browser) to upload the file.

  • You will see that your assignment file has now been added to your submission page.
  • When your submission is ready, press the 'Submit' button at the bottom of the page to submit your assignment for marking.

  • Select the 'Submitted' tab to check that your assignment has been submitted
  • Once your assignment has been reviewed by your marker, it will be returned to you either in the 'Graded' tab with a mark attached, or in the 'Inbox' for further editing/re-submission by you. The 'New' icon will appear in the Course Menu if the assignment is returned to the inbox.

Note: If you use Word 2007, your file MUST be saved as Word 2003.

How do I confirm that my assignment has been submitted?

A

Select the Submitted tab .
The assignment is listed with a status of 'submitted'.

What happens to an assignment if I do not submit it before the due date?

A

The assignment will be moved to the 'Submitted' tab and listed with a status of 'missed'.

How do I know if I need to resubmit an assignment?

A

The new item icon will appear next to Assignments in Course Tools
A Returned assignment will be shown in the Inbox with a Status: "Individual in Progress (Attempt #2)"
To amend/remove the original file click Remove a submitted assignment icon
To add additional files click Add Attachments

How can I retrieve a submitted assignment?

A

Go to Submitted tab
Click the assignment title
Click Retrieve a submitted assignment icon in top right hand corner of the window to "Take an assignment back and put in Inbox"

The assignment can be submitted again from the Inbox. This can only be done before the assignment due date and if the option has been set up for the assignment.

How do we submit a group assignment?

A

Only one member of a group can submit the assignment.

Can I take back an assignment or a file for an assignment submitted by another member of my group?

A

All members of a group can take back an assignment before the due date as follows:

  • Click the Submitted tab
  • Select the assignment title
  • Click Retrieve a submitted assignment icon in top right hand corner of the window to "Take an assignment back and put in Inbox"
  • Click Remove a submitted assignment iconto remove a submitted file

How do I submit a Website assignment?

A

1. Create a website (containing linked html and graphic files) in a folder on your computer
2. Create a start (home) page eg index.html
3. Zip the folder to create a .zip file
4. Submit the assignment – attach the .zip file and select the start page (eg index.html)
